Blue Skies, Shining on me...

♫♫☺Bue Skies, shining on me, nothing but blue skies, do I see. ♫♫ Remember the lyrics to the song?  I love it!  My older sis and I always sing it with 2-part harmony and have since we were children!  During this last week we had much rain but there was one evening before dark when the sky was as blue as a robins egg and these fantastic puffy little clouds were floating along.  My camera was just snapping away and I did not know what direction to choose next!  The rendition of Blue Skies by Willie Nelson is not traditional but still uplifting...

I cannot help but smile just to look at these pictures!  If I had a bigger living room, I would frame a set of sky pictures and put them over the sofa, so that I would always see blue skies....
 
Blue Skies was written by Irving Berlin in December 1926.  The singer Belle Baker, introduced it on December 28th (My Mom's birthday and my grandson's) in 1926.

  We love the bluebirds, too!  This is a picture of a Blue Bird in our back yard last Spring when we had snow in early February here in South Carolina!  Hubby was able to snap this beautiful little fellow who was hanging to eat on the suet blog cage.

EGRETS Visit

Today when we woke, a great Egret came to visit as he usually does but instead of landing on the bank, he landed in the maple tree on the opposite side of our little lake.  I slid the den window open and snapped a couple of pictures before he flew farther down the lake to the bank. 

We love seeing all the birds and critters so much and never tire of them.
   There is no relief from the hot spell we are having here in SC with high humidity to boot!  I am really looking forward to fall this year but do not want to wish my summer away!
  I have been busy doing alterations for neighbors (shortening slacks, jeans and shorts)  But we are still hoping we can leave for our hometown next week for a class reunion before Hubby goes back on chemotherapy for the Multiple Myeloma. 
  The little garden is just about burned up since the "Monster Cucumber"-ha!  But the tomato plants have new blossoms and we are hoping to have a new crop of them soon.  My red onion is multiplying under the ground and sending up new shoots!  It was growing roots in my vegetable bin and had started a green shoot.  So I planted it and now 2 bulbs are showing just at the surface of the dirt and the other shoot is coming up about 5 inches away!  Love watching the miracle of how things grow!

Isn't this a darling young Blue Bird?  I call them "teens" at this stage of developement and they are so beautiful.  The suet block certainly attracts a lot of different birds!  At first the mother would come with the little one, take some suet and feed him.  Then he got the idea and comes to feed by himself now.

BLUE BIRD ADVENTURES

Blue Bird Call

A tiny body needing food
  A weary Mama understood

  Brings Mama holding nourishing things
To please her Darling baby!

This little Babe was sitting on the crook where the suet is hanging.  He would beg and Mama would take pieces of suet and feed him.  Much too quickly for me to snap a picture.  Such a beautiful Monday visitor!

Yes, another frosty Morning!

THIS MORNING WAS THE WORST!  The furnace broke at 4:30 a.m. and it was only 25 out, windchill 17.  It is now up to 30.  We waited until 6:00a.m. and called a repairman and left a message.  At 9a.m. he called back and within the hour came.  The blower motor was definitely on the deceased list so he removed it and said he would try to find one and be back if he could.  So we are warming with 2 ceramic heaters and sunshine, LOL!  Bummer!  But the bright spots are the beautiful ice patterns on the lake early this morn and the wonderful Blue Bird blessing the feeder.  He was puffed up so big against the cold that he looked almost completely round!  Isabella, our Ragdoll, just got right up in the window for a close up look.  I took the pictures through the window and the largest one came out like a painting when I brought it up on the computer, I loved the effect!  I will definitely have to paint this Blue Bird of Happiness.

The good Lord always sends a ray of sunshine in the midst of trouble and today he added this beautiful little creature.  We are so blessed!

FROM THE BACK DOOR...

WHO'S THAT PEEKIN' OUT OF MY BACKDOOR??

   It is I, Kerrie - ha!  Bill caught me one Saturday when I was still in my night gown and I was bending down to talk to him through the screen.  Before I could blink, it was snap, snap and here I am - ha!  My cousin Jean lives a few blocks away and always comes in and out through the back door.  She says if you come in one and go out the other, you will cause the occupant to have more company.  That is funny.  But I love it when company comes this way as they feel comfortable and we spend a lot of our days in the den there.  My computer is set up in the den so I can watch the birds out of the window and also see Bill if he is working in the yard.  I can pound on the window to shoe the geese away and keep the neighborhood in order!  Right now the  Blue Bird babies from early spring are hanging around and trying to keep any new nests from being built in the Blue Bird House.  It seems that the Carolina Wrens have put so much nesting material in the house that their grass, twigs, etc. can be seen in the opening.  The baby Blue Birds had a fit and were dive bombing them.  The Cardinal had to get into the act and was sitting near and keeping a beady eye on the little Wren who is peeking around the tree.  Such goings on!  It is too late in the season for a new brood so I am wondering why the Carolina Wren has gone to all this trouble.
