MONSTER CUCUMBER

OOOOH! STEP BACK JACK, IT'S THE MONSTER CUCUMBER!
Isabella, our ragdoll was not impressed at all with our 18 inch, 3 1/4 lb. cucumber!!  We finally cut it from the vine as it was starting to turn yellow and probably unedible at this point.  But it is chilling in the frig as I write and we will cut it later to see what the inside is like.  When you pat it, it sounds like the thud on a ripe melon- LOL!  It was so much fun to see just how big it would get but it sapped all the strength from the vine and the smaller ones all died out from the very high temps we have been having in SC.

Thanks for sharing in all the cucumber fun!

I have to say "WOW" too. :-) What else is there to say?

Even if it doesn't make an edible cucumber salad, it was great fun to watch it grow.

We get some biggies too. I wash, regrig, and then peel and slice them. I grill slices of french bread with just a little sea salt and olive oil and then place sliced tomatoes and sliced cucumbers on top and Mmmmmm Mmmmmm Mmmmmm, very good eating. That's a goodie you have there. I bet it was good. Have a great Sunday.

Isn't it amazing how something like that can grow from a tiny seed?

We used to grow cucumbers in Germany on the water's edge and we always had a steady supply of cucs - when the harvest started to end and they would grow only small, my dad would take those little ones and pickled them...he made the best pickles...

Have you ever made the cucumber salad with the sourcream?
