Huntington Beach SC trip

Saturday, my daughter Barbara and Darrell invited me along to a trip to Hungtington Beach, SC.  It is only minutes away from where I live and we go there often to take pictures of the wonderful wildlife as you know.  This time we were surprised to see flocks of Pelicans!  I have never been this close to them before.  Usually they are flying just barely above the ocean waves and not too near the shore.  So it was our lucky day!

They were so large and beautiful all facing the wind and sitting in a sun spot on a tiny patch of land in the marsh.

And here is a Stilt above running in the shallows and below are 2 Egrets fishing in the marsh.

Then we came upon this beautiful Blue Heron walking along the causeway bank in the dried grass.

This is a foot print in the shallow water in the sand, perhaps a Raccoon? 

All in all, another wonderful visit!

Swan Visitor

 The beautiful lone Swan was here all day.  I am not sure if it is a male or female but it has an injured wing and always comes alone.

 I think it is a she so I will refer to her that way-ha!  She is so beautiful except for her left wing feathers that stick out near the back as though they were bent forward.
I love that she wants to drink from the pond when the whole lake is behind her-ha!

 Fall is here and the some of the fowl will be flying North as the Canadian Geese seem to be gathered in one big unit and practice flying in form and landing on the lake.  Teaching their young no doubt.

I love watching all this cycle of life each season right here in my own back yard.  I am very blessed.

 And the gracious Egrets are year round dwellers here in SC and I love them visiting several times a day.  Almost all of my photos are taken from my den window where my computer resides...

Beautiful reflection.  This was in the morning.  The last rays of sunlight are caressing the horizon with a  last burst of glory in the center in crimson....

Rain, Rain, go away!

"Little Johnny wants to play"... a line from a nursery rhyme is so apt as we have had days of rain due to all of the storms just to the West of us here in SC.  Praying for all of the victims of the Tornadoes! 
Our resident squirrel is not bothered in the least by the rain this morning and just hung out in the used to be birdhouse high and dry.

 And the Egret just went on fishing as usual...

In a way I am glad it is still raining as the pine pollen is filling the air, everything is yellow!  The rain is keeping it down and not blowing around so much.



And yesterday was "Bill and Coo" day! This beautiful pair of mourning doves were loving one another as only doves can do!

 
 And this beautiful Robin was at the birdbath that was now full from all the rains.

I do so love my backyard critters!  Hope you enjoy seeing them as much as I enjoy taking their pictures and sharing with you.


It is very lonely here without my mate and is really taking some getting used to.  I am thankful for friends and family who bolster me up every day. And thanking God for his hand on my aching heart...

Sunday, Sunday...

October is upon us!!  The chill of Autumn is in the air-hurray!  I love the fall so much!  We had a particularly hot and humid summer here in SC and we were really looking forward to cooler weather so we could enjoy the out of doors.  My morning visitor, the Egret was chilled too, with temp at 52 degrees-ha!  He is hunkered down into his soft warm feathers while watching the lake for fish.



He lifts his head for a moment and then hunkers back down.

   It rained a lot last week and the lake is full once again.  It is a beautiful morning.  The Begonia pot that we had bought for the little patio by the lake was knocked over one day and it rolled into the lake where the turtles were attacking it with a vengeance!  By the time I rescued it, they had eaten a good amount of it's leaves so after convalescing on the back porch for a week or so, I hung it in the tree near the chairs and it is beautiful again.

Robins, Anhinga, Egret

The Anhinga came to visit on the little lake bank as he sat fishing in the sun.  Unlike other fowl, Anhinga's do not have oily feathers so they must rest between diving for fish to dry their wings.  Sometimes they sit in the sun for several minutes with their wings spread to dry.  Hubby got these pictures before he got too wet.

Then the Robin came to take a bath...



Last, the Egret came walking along the bank, also fishing.  He is so pretty and white in the sunshine.

I hope you enjoy seeing the wildlife that frequents our backyard, our little bit of heaven.  Hubby just finished making a place for sitting that is level on the bank today.  We are going to buy some molded plastic Adirondack chairs to put on it tomorrow.  The bench needs repairs and then will be somewhere else in the yard.

My heart to yours....

NOTHING BUT CRANES!

We are so blessed living where we can see so many tropical birds and creatures right in our own back yard.  We have seen everything from Great Blue Heron, Snowy Egret and Greater Egrets to Wood Storks.  We get all the more common visitors of birds, Beavers, Raccoons, and even Red Fox and Coyote's!  I took these pictures of the Great Blue Heron in the pine trees across the lake a couple of weeks ago.  I did run outside to take these but others were taken right from my den window.

And these great pictures were taken by Hubby last week when the Great Blue was visiting along the shore, sunning and preening. 

And can you tell that Hubby's camera is better than mine?? Ha!  I get so excited when I see his pictures!

This is my favorite of the Egret, you can even see the yellow of his eye!  I tell myself that I am going to use them for reference when I paint-ha!  But I never seem to make the time to paint any longer.  Someday....
