Beautiful Deer

Thursdays are my "go to the farm" days.  My lifetime friend, Sonny is 85, has had a stroke and is in a wheelchair.  She is one of the bravest, strongest ladies I know.  I love her very much.  Since I have moved back to my hometown, I make a supper for her and take it to the farm as we visit for about an hour and a half.  The time is filled with girlish laughter, sweet memories and lovely music....  I love going there and yesterday we were blessed with 2 huge beautiful deer in the apple orchard and right in the driveway!!  The sun room windows were marred with melting ice and bright sun but I was still pleased to get these photos!  I am always blessed when I am there!

Sonny takes care of herself, has taught herself to print with her left hand, does housework and closet cleaning, has beautiful fish tanks, and tends beautiful plants in her sun room.  Her sense of humor has never waned and we often find ourselves breathless from laughter.  What a wonderful, wonderful blessing!!  She has a huge German Shepherd who thankfully likes me-ha!  And I love him, too.  His head is as big as a bear.  Just wanted to share with you as helping others has always been my Christian JOY!  How can you help someone by doing one kind thing a week for them?  Thanks for coming today, have a nice weekend.

Huntington Beach SC trip

Saturday, my daughter Barbara and Darrell invited me along to a trip to Hungtington Beach, SC.  It is only minutes away from where I live and we go there often to take pictures of the wonderful wildlife as you know.  This time we were surprised to see flocks of Pelicans!  I have never been this close to them before.  Usually they are flying just barely above the ocean waves and not too near the shore.  So it was our lucky day!

They were so large and beautiful all facing the wind and sitting in a sun spot on a tiny patch of land in the marsh.

And here is a Stilt above running in the shallows and below are 2 Egrets fishing in the marsh.

Then we came upon this beautiful Blue Heron walking along the causeway bank in the dried grass.

This is a foot print in the shallow water in the sand, perhaps a Raccoon?

All in all, another wonderful visit!

If you have time, go to my TWO Happy blog for pictures of Fall leaves finally in SC!  Thanks for following and come again soon!

Almost forgot this beautiful picture of wild flowers, love the lavender color on these "tiny whisk brooms".

Busy, Busy...

GOOD MORNING MY FRIENDS!  I cannot believe how fast the days have been going by!  I missed you all.  I am still adjusting to being one of two. But it is getting a smidgen better every day.  I worked all last week subbing at the doctor's office so that was good getting out and earning some money.  God provides and He is so Good!

So anyway, I wanted to share some photos of another outing at Huntington Beach State Park here in Murrells Inlet, SC.  This time, my daughter took me just before sunset when the creatures are all settling in for the night, it was so beautiful.
Huntington Beach State Park is a Painter's and Photographer's heaven!  There were many photographers there that evening with tripods and super huge scopes and lens but I am sure their pictures were no better than these little digital cameras take-ha!
Murrells Inlet, SC is a fishing village and nationally known for it's wonderful seafood restaurants. Huntington Beach, SC is a state park and was originally owned by the Huntington's.  Mrs. Huntington was a sculptress and across the road from the park is Brookgreen Gardens where her sculptures are displayed all over acres of property and lovely gardens.  It also has a Butterfly House and a wood trail with wildlife in their natural habitat (owls, red fox, Eagles, hawks, etc.)
Dragonfly on dried dock plant.
Blue Heron and Egret sharing a fishing spot.

It is a wonderful respite at the beach where you can forget all of your troubles and be lost in the beauty of God and nature.  On Saturday we saw Wood Storks, Egrets, Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Alligators, Dragonflies, and breathtaking sunset scenes.
FULL MOON
I loved snapping this of the little pier lookout over the marsh water.  The setting sun illuminates it so nicely and it makes me want to paint or sketch this :)

Clouds and reflections are some of my most favorite subjects.  Also, future paintings....
I am guessing this is Trumpet Vine that grows next to the sidewalk all along the causeway.

I sure hope you enjoyed this tour of Huntington Beach State Park and that you will one day visit this beautiful spot.  There are year round camping facilities there, also.  I am truly blessed that I am living only 10 minutes away from this paradise.  Thank you for coming and do come again soon.

RED-TAILED HAWK

WHAT COULD BE MORE BEAUTIFUL THAN SPOTTING A HUGE RED-TAILED HAWK HIGH IN THE MAPLE TREE ABOVE THE LAKE?  THIS MORNING'S VISITOR WAS SPOTTED BY MY DAUGHTER AND A LOT OF RUNNING OUT OF DOORS WITH THE CAMERA TOOK PLACE! Such excitement!  My husband and Barbara were able to take several pictures before the hawk left his perch and flew to this side of the lake right over their heads!

Spotting the Red-tailed Hawk

Profile among the branches of the Maple tree.

His Majesty...
Red-tailed Hawk: Size: length 19-26 inches; wingspan 4 1/2 feet. Red-tails hunt from the air and from exposed perches, such as tops of dead trees.
Was this a great morning visitor or what!? Our backyard sanctuary has yielded visitors of all kinds including: raccoons, coyote, Red fox,Opposum, Mute swans, White Egrets, Great Blue Heron, Green Heron, Kingfisher, Blue Birds, Nuthatch, Titmouse, House Wrens, Carolina Wren, Flicker, Red-headed woodpecker, Mockingbird, Blue Jays, Mourning Doves, bunnies, squirrels, tiny green lizards and some hop toads no bigger than the end of my little finger!  It is like being Beatrix Potter but without her artistic ability, ha!  We love all the creatures who visit.  We moved here from a house we built after 9 yrs there because we wanted the peace and quiet of an over 55 neighborhood.  We purchased a nice little home on a lake in this central community.  The area was a natural nesting place for Canadian Geese, Swan, etc. Although the community was built among many small lakes, it did not bother the wildlife at all and they continue to come every year with some staying all year long to our delight.  On the other side of the highway going North from our community, is a golf course where we have taken bike rides on the path and seen Storks in the lakes at that location.  How fortunate we are to live in such a beautfull area here in Garden City/Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.
Thinking of retiring?  You would love it here!  We came 21 years ago today long before retirement age-just stepping out in faith and have never regretted it!  'Nuf said!
