Winter and the New Year have Arrived

Happy New Year every one!  Wishing you all the best of blessings to come!
My sweet husband received the last of his radiation treatments today and the doctor says he should be getting some real relief from lower back pain now!

Bright Sunshine fills the backyard, an almost blinding light without the leaves on our trees to cut the glare of a Winter sun.
   The birds are everywhere and the sunsets are still beautiful, warming the landscape in the nippiness of temperatures falling.

And as usual, I chase after the best views all around the house of God saying Good Night!

The sky is a baby blue and the sunset baby pink.

 The Camellia bush is a winter bloomer and brings beauty to an otherwise brown season of cold.

DOING THE CHORES...

Hmmm! Any day is laundry day at our house!!  For two old people we generate a LOT of laundry and a lot of garbage-ha!  Just when I think I am ahead of the game, there is another 2 or 3 loads of laundry to do!  Today it was the throw rugs, a load of whites and a load of darks.  I do so wish I had an umbrella clothes pole as it is 75 degrees and sunny here today--heaven!  I love hanging sheets and towels on the line and conditions are perfect right now before the pollen season!  There is nothing more wonderful than the smell of line dried clothes but for now my dryer must suffice-ha!

 I love this vintage advertisement for Laundry Starch from Buffalo, NY  The ladies in their little bustles are hilarious!

And I really don't mind ironing once I get started and always do an entire basketful at once.  Some don't iron any more but I cannot abide wearing cotton blouses or shirts that have not had a quick run over with an iron.  But at least we do not have to use the flat iron in the vintage picture, bless this lady's heart! I have a vintage flat iron that I painted on and it sets on the floor for a door stop-ha!
   I had seen some painted in a magazine several years ago when I painted mine with a farm scene from my imagination.  I love it.

I also have some kitchen items, a vintage can opener with a wooden handle and a spatula that my Mom gave to me many many years ago.  She was always sharing anything I needed and always said, "keep it".  Mom's are like that, aren't they?  I miss her so much...

I have turned the photo sideways for viewing but these are hanging in my kitchen the long way.

Do you have any old utensils or laundry memorabelia to share?  I would love to see!!

So I am on my Third load of laundry, the rugs are done and back on the floors, the light clothes in the dryer and the dark load just finished in the washer!  Yay!, now I can spend some time out of doors taking pictures like this one of the young female Bluebird that visited us this morning.

 She is under the plant crook eating what has fallen from the Suet hanging there.

She is right on the curve of the upper crook hanger blending in with the background so that I can barely see her.  Now that I am looking at these pictures after posting, I think this may be a young Male who does not have all of his vivid colors yet.
   I have the windows open in the house and I love the sound of my windchimes that sound like a harp.  Happy day to you all and come back soon!

Easter Week

How blessed are we by the creatures of the earth, the birds of the air, the flowers in spring, a time of renewal.  Thank you Lord for sacrificing your only son for us so that we might have life eternal.
  I am thankful for the flowers, the tree's new leaves, the greening of the grass but I am especially thankful for another spring with my hubby who is fighting cancer.
We treasure every moment together and can face any crisis as long as we are together.  Much like the old song, "Side by Side" in which a verse reads: "Through all kinds of weather, what if the sky should fall?  Just as long as we're together, it doesn't matter at all.  When they've all had their quarrels and parted, we'll be the same as we started.  Just a travlin' along, singin' a song, SIDE BY SIDE."  And as long as God is by our side we can face anything.  "There is nothing impossible that you and God can't handle today"

SUNDAY'S BEAUTIFUL BIRDS...

All of our beautiful backyard visitors today!   Downy Woodpecker at the top, Bluebird next, Male Red-bellied Woodpecker on the Suet, Female Red-bellied Woodpecker on Suet and last is the regal Canadian Goose.  We are so blessed with all of these wonderful creatures right in our back yard.  I don't think I ever realized how many species of Woodpeckers that there are.  Some even have a yellow spot on their heads, though we have not seen any in our area.  Please pop over to visit TWO HAPPY blogsite for more beautiful pictures.

WINTER WONDERLAND IN SC

WE WERE SO EXCITED TO SEE THE SNOWFALL last night and this morning as it is not often we see snow that stays on the ground in South Carolina!  In 21 years we have seen snow like that only 4-5 times.  So it was a novelty for us and we took lots of pictures.  Our granddaughter and daughter built a snowman last night as soon as it accumulated.  This morning the birds carried on as usual in the back yard suet and feeder.  Our beloved Blue Birds and Cardinals were even more brilliant against the snow background.  We are originally from Auburn, NY so we saw many harsh winters with lots of snow.  But this was a treat.  It will be melted away as quickly as it came but for now we are enjoying the quiet peace and beauty of the back yard.  We hope you enjoy our photos. ♥ Bill and Kerrie

BLESSED WITH BLUEBIRDS!

It's all about Bluebirds today!  They were in a flurry this morning about 10:30 a.m. eating the suet and filling the Bradford Pear trees, rooftops and ground with their beauty!  I may have to start a blog just for my Bluebird, Swans and all of the other beautiful birds and animals that bless us with their presence every day.

JUST BIRDS WEDNESDAY

IT JUST HAS TO BE SPRING! Yesterday and today we have been blessed with birds and water fowl in abundance!!  The Swan Couple came late afternoon yesterday and boldly came up to beg for food.  They posture the whole time with threats and the male makes gutteral sounds from his throat but they still beg for food.  Their webbed black feet are enormous and even have holes worn through in some places.

This morning brought the Bluebirds looking over the new house Bill made, Yellow Warblers, Chicadees and Flicker.  The yard was just a congested airway of landings and taking off.  They all love to look at the houses and eat the hanging suet and seeds.  Such a joy for us!
