RECIPES AND SENTIMENTS

This basket of faux fruit sits on the corner of my counter all year long.  Just to look at it makes me happy!  I added the Fall bow for this time of year.  I just love old recipes and I have a 1940's "The Lily Wallace New American Cook Book" It was given to one of my sisters back in the 50's and then given to me many years later.  The recipes are both basic and complicated, the illustrations wonderful and humorous for in the 40's it gives recipes to be served "with or without servants!!!" Don't think I need to worry about that-ha!
Today I have a simple recipe for Apple Crisp in keeping with the season, mmmm!  I can smell it now!

You definitely can tell I have used the old cookbook and this recipe many times in the last 50 yrs!

        APPLE CRISP
4 cups of sliced apples (your choice of favorite)
1/4 cup hot water
1/2 cup of butter or margerine
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup sugar
Arrange apples in a buttered baking dish (or you can use spray).  pour hot water over them. Cream butter adding flour and sugar to blend and form crumbs.  Sprinkle over the apples and bake at 400 degrees for 40-45 minutes.  Serve with ice cream or as is, Delicious! Remember that you can use substitutes for sugar (sweetener), margerine for butter, etc. to make this low calorie.  It does not change the flavor.
My Sweet hubby had treatment yesterday afternoon and all went well.  While I am sitting there with him I often write poetry, draw pictures, or plan what to post next on my blogs.  Here is one of my sentiments about the cancer journey:

   Walking the Rocky Shore

As we walk along this rocky shore
I ponder what else there is in store
For my sweet Love and me.

Battling cancer five years in,
... five long years since it began
And we still pray for a miracle.

Why bad things happen to good men?
Is never answered though we ask again and again,
And we mourn the way we were.

We trust in God and thank Him each day
For letting us be together...longer we pray
For half of me is him, together we are whole.

     NEW DAY

Love of Lord increases every bright new morn
All my faith and joy again reborn.
And if the day be gloomy
I never feel despair
For behind those dark clouds
My Savior lingers there!

Watching over all his children
No matter large or small
The goodness of our Lord
Watches over all.

What a comfort to my soul
When things of earth have taken their toll,
Knowing I can rest in His great hand!

FALL DECOR AND MORE

Good Fall Morning...

This is a picture of the 2 latest journals , one with a matching Teddy Bear of fall leaf fabric.  The pink one has a photo slot to personalize the journal.  These items are for the fall craft show that is coming up in our community.  The journals sell for six to ten dollars.  They have a little pocket inside the cover.  The corn candy is my husband's stash and one of his favorites all year round.  I am so thankful that he is able to eat pretty much what he wants to.

This is a picture of my floor decoration in the living room.  The wooden silhouette cat is one that I drew and Bill cut from wood.  I know I should paint him black for the season, but I love the rich wood color.  The base of the old floor model vintage radio is showing on the right.  We were given the radio which also had a record player but nothing worked and it was quiet ruined.  So my talented husband saved the bottom portion, refinished it and now I have a 2-door storage compartment.  He was able to cut it down still showing the Zenith logo.  It now is a stand for our large screen TV in the living room.
