Ahh, the Flicker!!
These Flickers are so vivid in color they appear to be brightly painted!
Common in open country near large trees, Flickers are jay-sized woodpeckers with brown back, no white on the wings, and a black breast crescent. In flight you will see white rump, yellow or salmon under the wings and tail.
Often you will see them on the ground eating ants and displaying like this picture below where she has found bugs in the remains of a tree trunk in our back yard.

These are great pictures!!! Flickers are the only ground eating woodpeckers, but they will come to feeders in the winter when they are real hungry. We used to have a lot, but now I haven't seen any in years. Probably because we had to cut down out huge maple tree. They are so pretty in flight, too!

And, I don't believe I've ever seen one of these birds. What a lovely little creature. Another special gift to us from God.
Beautiful birds, I put out food for the wildlife in the garden everyday, birds, squirrels ,what a joyus sight from the window to see them feed and them knowing just where to find it.

Flickers are beautiful birds, this one seems really seems to enjoy the suet and posing for photos. I love to watch them when they come to my yard.

OH, he's so beautiful, Kerrie, and I don't recall ever seeing one. I've seen a woodpecker with black and white stripes and a red head, but it didn't look quite like this one...very nice photos. I need a better zoom on my camera for bird photos!
