I know females are a rust color, but the males are so brilliant red. We have a lot of them here, as you know, but I've never witnessed a hatchling in a nest, not even seen a nest.<br /><br />I love your photos of all the birds and especially the little, fluffy ducklings following mom right in a row...how cute! We never did get any here. Mom got tired of sitting on her eggs. Don't know what happened there - maybe there was no male to fertilize the eggs because there sure were a lot of eggs - several times, but maybe the people kept chasing her off and she finally gave up.
